Location vs Mutation

Realestate_edited-1HR 1231 RACE for Children Act is asking Congress to change an outdated existing law. In 2003, the FDA created the Pediatric Research Equity Act (PREA) which was intended to help improve childhood cancer drug development. The law said that if a drug company was working on a drug for adult cancer and that same cancer was found in children, the company would be required to test in children also. PREA has not developed any drugs for children’s cancers. Because kids don’t get cancers of the breast, lung, colon, prostate, ovaries, etc. By updating PREA to 2017 science and using molecular targets, instead of locations or sites, we can dramatically increase drug development for kids’ cancers. Today we need to be addressing cancer by mutation, not location. How much will this change cost? Nothing!
